New D1 Board Members Elected!

3/28/2017

The District 1 Community Council held its Annual Meeting and Board Election on Monday, March 27 in an Open House at our office. We had a very strong slate of candidates running in a very competitive election.

We are happy to announce that our new board members are Patty McDonald (Highwood), Tony Parrish (Conway), Pang Moua (Eastview) and Amin Omar (Highwood). Our returning members are Timothy Turner (Battle Creek), Phil Fuehrer (Highwood) and Stella Alcantara (Battle Creek).

These people join President Paul Sawyer (Highwood), Vice President Tom Mohr (Highwood), and Directors JoAnn Clark (Battle Creek), Bonnie Watkins (Highwood), Matthew Barrett (Highwood), Zander Danielson Sellie (Highwood), Myra Smiley (Battle Creek), and John Slade (Eastview). We will hold our election for Board Officers (Secretary and Treasurer) at our April Board Orientation and Retreat.

We also hope to keep the other candidates fully engaged in our work going forward.

We have disproportionate representation from District 1 neighborhoods that are south of I-94. I'm not sure what can be done about it, (the voting process seems very fair), but I find this very concerning. I would ask that members from Highwood and Battle Creek make an extra effort to proactively engage with people and the issues important to communities north of the freeway.
