Master storyteller, Duke Addicks, will present three storytelling events on the history of our region in the tradition of the native peoples of Minnesota. One of these will be in our neighborhood.
“Wild Apples and Wild Indians” will be performed at Sun Ray Library, 2105 Wilson Ave on Wednesday, October 19 at 6:30 p.m. An early visitor to Minnesota in 1861 gives his eye-witness account of the injustices Native Americans experienced in the months leading up the revolt against white settlers in 1862. Duke Addicks is a master storyteller of true stories about people and places from the early days of St. Paul that he learned from Dakota elders and from descendants of the persons he talks about. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School (1966), United Theological Seminary (1979) and earned a certificate in post-graduate studies in ethnomusicology from Liberty University (2015). He is retired Chief Justice for the Upper Mississippi Mdewakanton Indian Community tribal court.
