SOutheast community organization Community Plan: a 10 year Vision for the Neighborhood

Each district council is responsible for developing a community plan that the City will adopt as a part of the City's own Comprehensive Plan (a requirement of all local municipalities...). District 1 has spent about 4 years surveying residents, meeting with them one-on-one and in community gatherings to find out what kind of vision we jointly have for our shared community. We have explored the changing demographics and the history of our 4 neighborhoods, looked at potential developments and investments that are coming our way, and re-examined all our old plans and the City's new plans.

Dialogue-to-Action: Community and City Relations

​Timeline: March, 2015 - January, 2016
​One of the action steps for change that came out of District 1's 2014 cross-cultural dialogue project was expanding the dialogues and have them be between community members and city departments ---- one specifically between youth and St. Paul Police.  The City of Saint Paul awarded money to the participating district councils  (1,2,3,5, and 8) from its Innovation Fund to carry this project forward in 2015.  Chia Lor was hired as the program coordinator.

Saint Paul Cross-Cultural Dialogues Project

Timeline: April, 2014 - January, 2015
In 2014, five Saint Paul district councils (District 1, 2, 3, 5, and 8) received a grant from the Saint Paul Foundation to launch the Cross-cultural Dialogues project with training and support by Everyday Democracy.  Each participating council hosted cross-cultural dialogue sessions with community members in their district to discuss problems of racism and inequity. All participating district councils and community members convened in an Action Forum in November 2014 to share action ideas that came out of the neighborhood dialogues.  These four top ideas were chosen to be carried forward in 2015:
